Douglas, AZ White Fillings

In years past, you had one option for restoring decayed teeth: silver amalgam fillings.

But nowadays, you have more options when it comes to your dental treatment. White fillings are now the restoration material of choice for many dental patients who want to avoid metal fillings for esthetic reasons or because they’re concerned about the mercury content. While the American Dental Association maintains that amalgams are safe, many people are still uncomfortable with them.

Before and after photographs placed side by side show the difference that white fillings can make. The left image shows a tooth with a large area of decay, and the right image shows the same tooth has been made whole again after placing a composite filling.
A white filling can make your tooth look brand new.

However, Dr. Gilberto Tostado has chosen to exclusively offer white restorations in his practice because they are:

  • Conservative; less tooth structure needs to be removed for tooth-colored restorations than for metal ones.
  • Esthetic; they blend in seamlessly with the rest of the smile.
  • They aren’t subject to corrosion as metal fillings are.
  • They bond to the tooth, strengthening the tooth rather than weakening it as amalgam fillings do.

What Are White Fillings?

Made from a composite resin material, tooth-colored restorations are a blend of glass and resin particles that rapidly harden and form a strong bond with the tooth when the material is set with a curing light. These restorations are mercury-free and contain no metals.

Additionally, Dr. Tostado will color your restoration to match the shade of the tooth it’s going into. Once placed, you won’t even notice the filling is there. White restorations can thus make decayed teeth look smooth and whole again.
