Douglas AZ Implant-Supported Dentures

Interested in a stable yet cost-efficient alternative to traditional dentures?

You may want to consider getting a denture that is supported by dental implants.

Implant-supported dentures bring together the best of both worlds: they provide more stability than regular dentures, and they are more affordable than replacing all of your missing teeth with individual dental implants.

How Implant-Supported Dentures Work

Regular dentures rest directly on your gums for support. Since your gums are soft tissue, that means the denture can move around when you chew or talk. The lower denture, in particular, can be a challenge to hold in place. Even the best denture will reduce your chewing efficiency by at least 50%.

A diagram depicting the way implant-supported dentures attach to two dental implants placed towards the front of the jaw. When that denture is attached to dental implants, it becomes fixed and much more secure. It can feel like you have your own natural teeth back.

The most economical implant overdenture is secured by only two implants, what we call a snap-on denture. While the back end can flop up and down a little, it will not slide around or come loose, though it can be snapped out for cleaning. Secured by four or more implants, the overdenture becomes fixed and totally stable, just like your own teeth.

Preventing Facial Collapse

Once your teeth are gone, your body senses that the bone in your jaw is no longer needed, and begins to resorb it to use the minerals elsewhere. A dental implant, however, will stimulate the bone that supports it which will prevent the body from resorbing the jawbone, thus avoiding facial shrinkage, also called facial collapse.

A Denture with Implants—Right Across the Border

Just two dental implants could help you feel more confident in the fit of your dentures. Dr. Gilberto Tostado is a prosthodontist with specialty training and extensive experience in placing implants and designing dentures that attach to implants. Besides two-implant snap-on dentures, Dr. Tostado also offers the All-on-4 and even All-on-6 techniques for even greater denture stability.
